What? No Shampoo AT ALL?

If our ancestors could live without any shampoo, why can't we?

I started to switch from SLS/SLES shampoo to less-poo method in 2010, I guess. I realized how many dangerous substances we send to the land everyday by using mainstream mass household products.  Not only the sulphates, but formaldehydes, parabens, and such.

My first step was changing my shampoo to better ones. At that time, I only recognized some eco-concerned brand like The Body Shop and L'Occitane. I remember, I purchased TBS's Olive Shampoo (which I thought as more green, turned out it isn't really green...it contained SLS too.). Gotta admit that I still remember the scent and I like it.

Then I changed to the brand's Bilberry Shampoo, which claimed to adjust shine of hair. Ironically it still contains SLS, hahaha, silly me. I also tried their legendary Banana shampoo...one word, it's even greasier on my hair. But smells good. SO GOOD. And thankfully suddenly TBS launched a biodegradable shampoo, Rainforest series!

Again, I do love the scent until now, but it didn't fix any issue on my hair. Instead, it dried up my scalp and made my hair dense, stiff, as an ijuk.

Once after those experiments, I bought L'Occitane's soothing shampoo. It focused on maintaining a soothed scalp and silicone-free, and SLS free ( they use another substance like Sodium Lauryl Suffosuccinate etc. ). Well, I only pleased my nose. The shampoo worked better for some period of time, but my hair started to be pissed off again with oils and dandruff.

No shampoo works. Actually. I tried dry shampoo, but it adds up more piles on my crown...
I tried no-poo like with soap bar and baking soda, and apple cider vinegar...
Nothing worked. My hair would always back to weird state everytime.
Ah, but, the only action that gave a very positive effect to my hair was aloe vera gel. My hair was darker (it became jet black from dull black) and thicker, more volumized...yet...greasy. I couldn't wash and use it properly. Arrgh.

And in 2020, yea, 10 years afterward, I DO noticed that it actually just basic modern industrial human: we add too many unecessary element into our body. (and our life, in general, let's talk about it later). We don't need all different products for every part of our body.

I was in a no soap challenge and actually my skin looked happy about that. In this pandemic situation, yea, sadly, we need more anti-bacterial soaps and such, but...I guess...since The Planet is healing, what about healing our mindset? Our ancestors lived without SLS. Maybe later on they invented the magical cleansing impact of soapnuts. And I'd like to make a soapnut shampoo, but if there's one more zero effort method, I'm in!

So I washed my hair with only water.
Like Mowgli, maybe.

Because I'm sure Baloo didn't give him any shampoo.

And I did rinsed my hair with fresh water for a week. Every two days. It dried up quiet quickly ( cause it hold nothing but H2O I guess? ) compared to no-poo shampoo. Afterward, I brush my hair carefully. If it looks a bit stiff, I soften it with a baby hairbrush I have. And. My hair. Behaves. Well. Even better than my previous substance-full life!

Maybe it's not as sleek as those shampoo models out there, but, you know what, it's just a manipulation of the media! My hair doesn't look as clumpy, and my scalp is free from irritation. Less irritated. Like it's happier, lol.

In conclusion, I think I'm ready to live without shampoo. Or even no-poo method. Water is enough as long as there's clean water ( use it carefully tho' ). For other cases like after-swimming or after beach, perhaps I'll find a solution. Later. Let's just see.

Stay safe, Earthlings. :)
